Fans of Ann Martin's website, www.allthingspaper.net, already know her for her considerable accomplishments as a writer, as a crafter of exquisitely fine quilling, for her tireless efforts to promote the work of others, and for her uncanny ability to find, and bring to the attention of her readers, anything and everything that is happening in the world of paper crafts. With her new book, the similarly named "All Things Paper," she continues that good work.The book is divided into four sections (Home Decor, Fashion Accessories, Jewelry, and Correspondence) and contains 20 projects in total. Along with her own work, she's invited some of the artists she's featured online to contribute projects, as well. The result is a collection of beautiful, charming, and clever projects; each accompanied by bright, clear photographs and easy-to-follow directions.The tutorials run the gamut from simple (and fast) to the stunning (if a bit more time-consuming). There is plenty here for the beginner but more accomplished crafters will also find plenty to get excited about. Best of all, there's inspiration here for every level.The book has only just arrived but already my personal favorites include Linda Thalmann's gossamer-like paper yarn creation, Patricia Zapata's delightful garland ornament, and the author's own gorgeous filigreed jewelry projects. Given the sheer number of paper artists the author seems to know and has worked with online, I expect (hope!) this will be the first volume in a whole series of paper crafting books!
The projects in this book are easy to understand, the tools used for the projects are those most crafters have in their supplies, the instructions are clear and the ideas are original and fun and really intriguing. I was really anxious to jump in and start. So far, I have had success with every thing I've tried. I can't recommend this book enough. I would suggest that this would be best for a crafter with a bit of experience - at least so you might have collected enough supplies to make it easy to jump right in.
I am a huge fan of Ann Martin's blog and was so excited when I heard she was putting together a book. And Ann doesn't disappoint. Every one of the projects in this book is so unique and not like anything I've seen in other paper crafting books. The steps are easy to follow and there are lots of pictures of each project being made. They all look like so much fun, I have trouble figuring out which I want to try next!The other cool thing is that each project features a different paper artist. I really enjoy reading the introduction of each project and learning more about what inspires each artist. So motivational! Such a fun book on so many levels.
A fan of Ann Martin's All Things Paper blog, I was thrilled to see this book of so many new ideas and beautiful, decorative paper objects that anyone can learn to make with basic tools and materials. I've used this book as a gift, since it is unique in its challenge to appreciate the versatility and functionality of such a simple medium - paper! One can admire Ann's collection of artists. My favorite piece is the Tiered Garland Ornament. I can see a version of this as a paper lantern. I'm looking forward to more projects from Ann and her friends in the future.
Great resource. One of the few places with instructions to create the Japanese Hidden Compartment Box! Clever and very cool. Good directions as well!
I have been wearing Ann Martin's jewelry and I have never gotten so many compliments. I am fascinated with her chapter on Quilled Jewelry in All Things Paper because it is hard to believe how it's done. My experience is that fragile paper upholds its jewelry design over time and is quite sturdy. There is an entire section of the book devoted to paper jewelry with five different jewelry projects, not all quilled; along with sections on home decor, fashion, and correspondence. She's the master of her craft and assembled other equally talented artisans. Thank you, Ann, for sharing this with us.
I bought the Kindle Version and unfortunately you can't print or copy the templates from the Kindle edition. I emailed the contributor of a project I wanted to try and asked for the template but received no response.
As a long-time follower of Ann Martin's blog, I, of course, had high hopes for this book. I ordered it in advance just knowing it would be everything I expected. And I have to say, all my expectations were not only met but exceeded!In this beautiful book, the projects are organized into logical categories and each one is well-presented. The instructions are clear and the photos enhance the directions. I am presently working on two of the projects myself and can vouch for the accuracy of the steps.True to form, Ann Martin has continued her tradition of featuring talented paper artists in their best light. She has also provided her readers with real-world information to allow us to get in on the creative act and produce useful, beautiful articles that are amazingly fun to create. Ann urges us in the introduction to lose track of time. Indeed.This book goes beyond arts-and-crafts and steps into the art world, taking us along with it. I can hardly wait for Ann's next book to come out - it won't be soon enough!
