This is a great book for non-scientists who are curious about how natural patterns develop. The color plates serve to amplify and demonstrate the test, although a larger screen is best for viewing them.
There are more pictures than words in this book.
This book has magnificent photos and poetic but clear descriptions of why there are only so many shapes in nature. I gave it as a major Christmas gift, and the recipients are so grateful. The pictures alone are worth the price.
This is one of the funnest books going. Beautiful pictures. Great explanations. Philip Ball is one of my all time favorite authors.
The book is loaded with spectacular images. It draws Interesting parallels between patterns in living and non living things. Uses lots of mathematical concepts, such as fractals and symmetry, to describe what is seen in nature.
Philip Ball's other books like Shapes and Flow contain more detailed information if you're looking for more content. This book is a nice collection of aesthetic structures and forms from nature. If you're an architect, designer or visual person, this book will have inspirational photography to help you formulate your ideas.
Beautiful and inspirational. I have a teen granddaughter who is very intelligent and creative. This will be one of her Christmas presents.
