The only thing more interesting than Mr. Ellsworth’s established character, Michael Gresham, is sharing the “birth†of a new character to hang out with Gresham. After reading Annie’s Verdict it becomes clear Mr. Ellsworth has taken my reading pleasure up 2 notches.Readers have the opportunity to share establishment of lawyer practice boundaries. Many legal procedural books simply state direction characters take upfront. Not here! Ellsworth lays out the moral and legal conflict Gresham is faced with. Notch #1.Notch #2 revolves around Annie’s introduction. Ellsworth designs Annie’s complex background story uncovering skills beyond character expectations.I am looking forward to more Gresham and Annie encounters. While reading Annie’s Verdict one may not have predicted her skills. We need more information on this topic.Perhaps Ellsworth will expand not only on the Gresham Annie relations, but tell us more about Annie’s perceived independent education.
Annie, an altruistic savant minor, helps Michael Gresham solve a series of very personal murders. Annie’s skills allow a flexibility in the story flow that makes it one of Ellsworth’s best. Like most of Ellsworth’s stories, there is a twist at the end. This one surprised me and to an extent leads one to expect the that part of the storyline to continue. I am on the pre-order list for the next in the Michael Gresham/Annie Gresham series. Update: I am on the pre-release list for Ellsworth books and have read and reviewed the next in this series, "Dead Lawyer On Isle 11" and Annie continues to add to the already great story flow of John's books. Readers should start with Annie's Verdict prior to reading the following books that include Annie as part of the Gresham legal team, it lays the ground work for Annie's contributions.
This is the first story written by John Ellsworth that I have finally been able to set aside time to read. I love how you get so involved with the characters that you simply cannot put the lPad/phone/book down! I feel like I know them and literally read this story while doing my domestic chores! I think the world would be a much better place with more Michael Gresham’s! I love how he has taken little Annie in and that she is able to help him with her special needs through her analytical mind and to know that she loved and will be taken care of. Even though I’m pretty sure her character can care for herself! I’m starting on Dead Lawyer on Isle 11 later today!
This is my 6th Michael Gresham book. The first four were very good. They moved right along and were action packed. When I read the 5th one it seemed as though there was a lot of descriptions of places, people, etc. that really weren't relevant to the story. This book is jam packed with mindless descriptions as though the author has run out of things to keep the books moving along. In this book when a police officer was asked about how he came to be involved in the case the narrative is: "Mamie was in the kitchen frying up a pan of hush puppies..." Then one of the main characters tells how she became involved. She goes on to describe that, even though it was cold enough to freeze a pond, she put on her helmet and her winter gear and rode her motorcycle to the scene. I really don't care. When I read a mystery or thriller it doesn't matter to me that someone wore their helmet and that Mamie was frying up dinner. Also, some of the conversations are ridiculous: "The guy's frozen in the pool" Response: Pool frozen over?" This book just totally lost me.
"Nobody Does It Better" than John Ellsworth. I read the book without stopping over 30 minutes. Spellbinding is the only word to describe Book 1 of his new series. Just as he has delved into multiple personality disorder, he explores the mind of savants. I have never read an author who spins a story touching on current events , mysteries of the midnight and weaves then into entertaining fiction. An absolute must read.
This is a fantastic tale written by Author John Ellsworth that I read on my Kindle from Amazon. The series with Attorney Michael Gresham has a new character in that of a savant, a 12 year old named Annie. Annie is an orphan who idolizes Gresham and assists him in his quest to solve the murder by profiling the situation. I understand this to be an ongoing theme for the future for Ellsworth and his novels. I highly recommend the reading.Annie leads the way!
I don’t usually like to read books out of order but in this case I read the second book first and then went back for Annie’s Verdict. It was of course up to the authors usual Superior writing but the meeting and love that develops between Michael and Annie was just superb. What an unusual little girl and your heart immediately goes out to her. This story line underlies a wonderful murder mystery plot. Don’t miss it!
If John Ellsworth were to publish a phone book, I would buy and read it! The guy is a master with a story line. Once you think you've got it all figured out, zing, and off you go in another direction. This book is no different. It's a real page turner (as all his books are) and I can't wait for his next one.
